Many people like to use God as something to sprinkle over when there is a problem or when they get their way. Do you really believe God is going to show up? Do you really believe that God is the one that was in the middle of your situation, orchestrating it all to work out for your good?
What if I told you that He was?
My life has been full of moments where God showed up, whether I realized it then or not. One moment that is forever stamped in my mind is a traumatic car accident. It happened almost 3 years ago, and is something I daily have to choose to overcome fear in my head from. Once police and ambulance came onto the scene, they said that we shouldn't have come out of that alive. How can I say God didn't show up? How can I possibly walk away from that, NOT changed?
But what does that mean, "When God shows up"? Is he some giant man, donned in a white robe, angels circling his head while his big booming voice and crazy long beard startle you?
Or is it something more simple, though still ground breaking? When fear is coming over you, and you literally cannot hold on anymore, in whatever situation you are in, and all of a sudden pressure is lifted from you. You can finally breathe and hang on for just a moment more, and learn to keep hanging on until you learn to persevere and overcome.
Open your eyes! See what all is going on around you and how it is a complete miracle that you are alive in this very moment! That your body knows exactly what to do to sustain itself and keep working. It's insane, yet we don't even realize that it's even something to batt an eye to.
Whether you read the Bible or not, here's a little Bible study-reading-eye opening-thing, whatever you prefer to call it, for you!
Here's some background:
There's an intense man in the New Testament (that's the second half of the Bible where Jesus comes in, lives, dies, and lives again) named Paul. He is a warrior for God and his life not only impacted people in his day, but people in our day still. Well him and his partner names Silas were going about their business, going down to pray, and this demon possessed women is following them shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, and have come to tell you all to be saved." Obviously after awhile this would get a bit irritating. Well Paul casts the demon out of her and it upset some people, and they were ordered to be beaten and thrown into the jail.
"Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chain of every prisoner fell off! The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself. But Paul shouted to him, 'Stop! Don't kill yourself! We are all here!' The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and asked, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?'" Acts 16:25-40
That's a bit of an intense moment for these 2 guys, but didn't you see God show up?
No, well scroll back up when these guys were singing and then an earthquake erupted and their chain were broken off. Because of this moment, and that these 2 guys were hanging on, you see God showing up and someone seeing the power of God and surrendering to Him.
I know it's hard, waiting isn't the easiest especially when you're in pain. Just hold on for a second longer, pray, sing and praise God. Then hold on because God is going to show up in a new way, a way that you and the people around you need the most.
