I just want my life to start!
When is it all gonna fall into place?
THEY have someone?! ...well I really must have something wrong with me!
What is your purpose right now as a single person?
Though I may not be able to specifically tell you what God wants you to do, I can tell you these things.
NOT EVERYTHING IS BASED ON MARRIAGE!
yes- everything you are doing right now is helping you lead up to being someone's spouse.
yes- you should be working on yourself to BE a better spouse in the future, break generational curses that could be having a hold on your family line
HOWEVER... this should not be your sole focus.
There is an intricate plan in motion, a God ordained plan. And there is a reason that you (and I) are not married; not because something is wrong with you but because you are not ready. Lessons that need to be learned, experiences to be lived; all of this leading up to the explosive moment we all look forward to.
I've lived it... the constant "scanning the room for the soul mate" look (this isn't happening with just women; guys you do it too). Knowing the vision God placed on my heart and having the feeling of I HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW! I didn't understand waiting, I didn't know what it meant to really know Jesus before getting to know a guy.
This journey is full of constantly finding your identity in Christ, not a person.
Our purpose:
-to be an example: we are created in Christ's image and we all show a specific facet of Him
-to use the unique freedom that being single gives by going wherever, whenever God calls you
The struggle IS real:
-being content: you see people around you who "have it all" and you never really soak in what you have and how that is beneficial and special for you.
-idolatry: relationships and people can easily be put in front of God in your life. We constantly have to check ourselves (single or not) to make sure that you are clear of idols in your life.
My favorite visual is... WE ARE IN A WAITING ROOM!
"Life" has not begun, mainly because you have chosen for it not to. Being in the waiting room doesn't mean that you can't be doing something at the same time. Often when we wait for the doctor or dentist we will check our emails or social media, read, work, flirt... ok maybe you shouldn't strive to do this one every doctors visit : )
But here's the deal, you have to be doing something. While we are waiting God is moving, and He wants to move us too. He wants to take us to a higher place (emotionally, spiritually, maturity). Are you moving or moping?
Take comfort that while you are waiting, God is closer than you can imagine.
Psalms 37:23-24 says:
"the Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in EVERY DETAIL OF THEIR LIVES. Though they stumble, they will never fail, for the Lord HOLDS THEM BY THE HAND."
If God has started something within you, He will finish it. It is our job to be obedient to His voice and be fully satisfied in Him alone.
