I just completed my 3rd official day as a kindergarten teacher.
There are a few things I'm certain of:
1. my feet and back hurt
2. school just starts waaaay to early
3. kindergarteners eat SO MUCH FOOD!
4. I have absolutely fallen in love with 13 kids!
Today as they were having telling time (they get to tell us something interesting or what is on their minds) I was moved to tears as one boy shared about his obsession with Ninja Turtles. I just looked around and completely was overwhelmed by the love God planted inside of me for His little children.
How did I miss this? Why was I not moved to tears the moment I received this job?
There is a bigger plan that I am a part of right now, bigger than I could have imagined.
If you're a teacher LISTEN UP!
(If you're in contact with people younger than you, I want you to listen too)
You were placed where you are for a specific reason. You are a crucial part of the bigger plan.
You are important. You are capable of more because we serve a God with infinite resources.
Tap into that! Let Him guide your steps and words.
What are you doing with the younger ones around you?
In the 4 short years I have been teaching, I've learned that there are so so many ways to reach a child. One of my favorites is belly button time! I usually use little songs and funny games to break them out of their shell and get them to form a bond with me. Belly button time teaches different body parts but also how to think of movements on your own. (wiggle eyebrows, shake hips, bob heads etc.) But this is just an example of how to reach youngins'
There's the question game, there's intense active games for ones older.
You should have no excuse on not reaching people. This is our job.
What happens when you die or when you're old, who's going to step up and run the show?
These young bucks who can't tie their shoes or the ones who are sucked into their phones will one day soon be in charge.
But it's too hard
Well duh! But it's worth it.
If you are a GREAT leader who does everything, balances many plates, wears many hats and your saying is "Don't worry I got this", you're not helping any of us.
Hand over tasks to the younger ones. Teach them how to do things.
DISCIPLE THEM!
Spread out what you know... I promise, it will have a bigger ripple effect that you think : )
