Now I know when it comes to make up and style people are very particular and often times get pretty defensive. So I am going to bravely venture into this new makeup trend called contouring.
Before you get a little judgey let me preface... I do wear makeup! Don’t let the hippie pictures on my page fool you, I am very much a girly girl! I have pinterest boards dedicated to makeup, style and different hair ideas.

But I do however have an itch that needs scratching with this contouring business. The whole basis of contouring is using bronzer and concealer to alter the structure of your face. But my real question is, why?
Why would you want to alter something that God has gifted you with? satan and majority of society already pushed towards females that we are NOT good enough. I admire the celebrities that do not go to crazy lengths to be accepted in their environment. Whether they know it or not, they are sending a powerful message!
This whole ordeal started when I began to research makeup for a class I'm teaching. I was looking up different tricks for concealer, foundation, bronzer and all the other fun stuff! But while I was doing this I kept coming across articles about contouring and started to look up pictures.
OH MY WORD! ...this made my Texan come out y'all!
The women's before and after pictures blew me away! They looked so drastically different! I literally could not believe my eyes. I'm hardly ever speechless (hence why I have a blog) but I was beside myself. Now, a girl dealing with insecurity is nothing new, and I completely understand it. Honestly, who hasn't been there? But I feel like this contouring business is only making things worse. It is creating a way for girls to literally have a mask to cover up their insecurities.

A lot of times, our masks are emotional ones; Smiling when you’re not really happy to trick people into thinking that nothing is wrong. But as a youth pastor I know once said… only all the time!... it’s going to the next level! (That's for you B!)
I do agree that makeup is fun and I too use it. I think it does enhance the beauty that God has given, but like all things it can be twisted and used improperly.
So many times in the bible God says that He knit us together, He formed us in our mother's wombs. Everything He did was intentional! The ears that you think are too big and awkwardly placed, your nose that pokes out too far, your eyes that are weird and using eye liner makes you think it looks worse, and your cheeks... might as well audition for Alvin and the Chipmunks.
You see how God's creation, intended for good, has been warped by satan?
Everything we have been given has a purpose, not just your look but all your little quirks too! They are all intended to show God's beauty, craftsmanship and power, but also for us to glorify Him with it.
For the longest time I remember hating the mole on my chin! I panicked when I saw it growing and popping out when I was 9. I even tried to cut it off... but it grew back (totally not lying). Kids would make fun of me and say I had poop on my chin; when people meet me now they think it's a piercing and that I'm a super artsy/hipster musician! In middle school I would only put make up on my mole and the surrounding area to "blend it in". What really happened was that I spent several months looking awkward and having a handful of pictures that I just shake my head and laugh at. But what I love about it is this right here; that I get the opportunity to use my testimony to help others and bring glory to God.
I want to challenge you to not put as much makeup on. Go to the grocery store without it! Don't wear any outside of the hours of you actually going to sleep.
You're beautiful!
You're adored more than you know!
You are a masterpiece created by the master Himself!
and YOU. ARE. ENOUGH.
Ephesians 2:10 says-
"For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."
